Woke up a bit late but not a big deal got there
in plenty of time and even met up with a new face
for cyclocross in a SJBC jersey Andrew made his
cyclocross debut in the Juniors cat. I had already
registered and did 1 warm up lap then I waited
while Andrew got ready and I took him around 1
time to familiarize him with the barriers and
the 1 runup. So I got 2 laps in as warm up so
I was feeling pretty comfortable with the course.
There were a few paved sections that I knew I
could make good use of to offset the loose sections
I would loose time in.
The start was right into the long paved section
which happen to be uphill as luck would have it.
I was sitting in 7th or so place over the 1st
set of barriers and then kept moving up to 4th
where the 2rd and 3rd place guys got tangled up
so I moved into 2nd but I was losing ground to
him on the technical stuff and then regain all
my lost time in the straight sections. I picked
some bad lines and the was passed by the 3rd place
Bay Cities guy they happen to be 1st and 2nd overall
in the series go figure. I followed them pretty
much the rest of the race on the 3rd lap I got
caught behind some juniors and picked some poor
choices in lines so I fell back even more. I never
really saw the 4th place guy so I knew I had a
cushion. It was nice having someone there at the
race to cheer for you as you went around the course.
I passed Andrew towards the end of the 3rd lap,
he started 30 seconds after us so as I passed
I gave him the go San Jose battle cry which sounds
more like "On your left" but thats besides the
point. The last lap my goal was just to stay 3rd
and thats what I did. Scored another bronze medal
to go with my other 2. Andrew came in 4th for
his race so not a bad day of CX racing for SJBC.
