Coming off a disapointing 7th place I was not
feeling real hot this morning but the weather
was a little warmer (no artic wind). The course
was run reverse of yesterday with a beach run
and barriers. I did 1 warm up lap and it looked
pretty good a few sections were soft from the
races yesterday but a lot of it was hard packed.
I hopped on the trainer for half an hour and warmed
up/chatted with my Pen Velo homie.
9am we lined up and I got the call up to the line
I had moved into 5th overall after yesterdays
race which was a shock. I got a decent start but
played it safe and fell back a few spots. I am
too nice of a rider I have figured out. So after
the 1st lap we were all strung out and I hammered
with what I had left after yesterdays race (which
wasn't much). I found my Pen Velo guy then saw
the top 5 guys so I new I had a chance to move
up or at least try to move up. I passed the Pen
Velo guy and with 2 laps to go thats pretty much
how things stayed. I really couldn't gain any
time due to my non technical abilites in the tight
stuff. With 1 lap to go I looked back and saw
nobody so I knew I had a comfortable gap. I tried
to push it to catch up to the rest but no such
luck.
As I chatted with the top 5 guys then did a quick
cool down and waited for the results. I was hoping
for a top 6 overall. This race was double points
so I knew I had to have a decent result to stay
in the shwag. Sure enough 6th for the race and
6th overall. Even got to stand next to the podium.
Tey only had a podium built with 5 spots but hey
who cares a podium is a podium in my book. So
I got a little shwag and a handshake from the
top 5 guys.
