A brutal CX course is all I really have to say.
I arrived at Aptos High School pretty early to
be greeted to banners stretched along the sides
of hills so I knew it was going to be a tough
one.
Did 3 warm up laps there were 3 good sized run
ups and 1 longish decent that was pretty bumpy.
Nothing real fast and flat so not my specialty
thats for sure. There were quite a few people
in the C's more than 34 for sure. The start is
up road and immediately off the bike for a steep
run up. The 1st time up was a walk up due to so
many people. I didn't mind then some technical
stuff and a flat section to another short run
up followed by another steep sandy run up. The
course was pretty technical and slow.
On the last lap I was making up ground and could
see a large group of C's and I knew there was
a flat section coming up so I could pass unfortunately
I was thinking too far ahead and forgot about
the downhill right turn and fell into a rut and
did a half endo into the dirt luckily my knee
took most of the blow.... That didn't the rest
of the lap. As I got up another rider passed me
and said "Thanks" I thought that was nice of him???
I should be the one saying thanks for not running
me over. I followed that rider through the rest
of the course and then over the last set of barriers
I just shouldered my bike and ran with it till
I got onto the road for the finish line to hold
onto my place.
When I finished I looked at my leg and the blood
running down my leg was black from the dirt. I
was happy with the race and went straight home
to show my wife my scrape "aka badge of courage"
She was not impressed.
Next CX race is Candlestick 10/23/05
