John
Sek won the Annual SJBC Vuelta this weekend!
Continuing on his strong district 40-44 performance,
John Sek came in 2nd in the Individual Time
Trial, 1st in the 25mile Crit and 1st in the
50mile Road tour to win the overall in convincing
manner.
Going into the last stage it looked like a
battle of wills between the top two riders,
Jon Sek and Allen Satterlee, with a 7 second
difference in General Classification. As in
past years this was again going to come down
to a strategic battle for time bonuses and
the "WALL" was again going to make or break
the riders. On the first KOM sprint at the
top of the wall, Jon out sprinted Allen in
a close effort. However, Allen clearly won
the second KOM and looked to be rallying to
make a time gap and break Jon's dogged determination.
Allen was soon reeled in by Jon and the two
then managed to soon drop the rest of the
field. On the third time over the wall, Jon
sealed Allen's fate with a fine effort opening
a two bike length gap at the top. This then
left Allen with approximately a 30 second
time defict. However, Allen was still not
ready to concede. On the final stretch before
the climb to the finish, Allen once again
tried to break away, but Jon was too strong
and would not relinguish his hold on Allen's
Wheel. At the finish Jon once again showed
that he still had more left and sprinted for
the win. |
