» SLOUGHS WINTER SERIES :: CLINIC

»
San Jose Bicycle Club presents its first Winter Series Clinic on Saturday, 11 October from 9 am to 3 PM in North San Jose.

The clinic will focus on beginning racer skills, from pinning on a race number to pack riding skills with a focus on safety. The cost of $115 includes instruction from five of the club's premier racers. Student to instructor ratio is 6:1, with a 30-registrant limit. Included in the cost is a one-year membership to San Jose Bicycle Club ($40 value), a season pass to all SJBC Winter Series events (a $75 value) and lunch. Juniors will be accepted free of charge (six juniors max).

Instructors for this clinic are...
Steven Mielich, 2006 NCNCA Best All Around Rider Masters 35+ 4/5
Clark Foy, 2007 NCNCA Best All Around Rider Masters 35+ 4/5
Daryl Spano, 2nd place 2001 NCNCA Best All Around Rider Masters 35+ 4/5, 2nd place 2002 CA State Climbing Championships 35+ Open
Annabell Holland, 2008 California State Track Champion, ranked 3rd nationally in age group (Track Match Sprint)

The first event of the Winter Series season will be a short prologue event on October 12. This is an Eddie Merckx-style time trial (no aero equipment allowed for this race, including aero helmets, disc wheels and aero bars). The cost to enter the prologue will be $8, the same as all WS events. Of course, if you purchase a WS Season Pass for $75, you get all 12 events for one price. Your eight bucks also get you into the Winter Series picnic, which will be held right after the prologue. Location is to be announced.

What's so important about the prologue? First of all, this event will seed you in your WS category. This year, category 6 will be dropped. Novice riders will be placed in Category 5; experienced riders will be placed in Category 1 through 4.

Now if you are thinking that you might just sandbag the prologue and come on strong the second half of the year to take the Overall Trophy, let me say upfront that sandbaggers will be treated ruthlessly; don't be surprised to see upgrades late in the season. Upgrades mean you lose half of your category and overall points. We expect a premier performance at the prologue.

For the big hitters, the prologue will count in the coveted Scratch Trophy point total. However, all prologue participants will receive the same overall points no matter their placement in the prologue...10 points across the board. Anyone who misses the event will start the season 10 points back and won't be eligible for the Scratch Trophy. No category points will be awarded for this event.

Please Note:
All events are conducted on open courses with vehicle traffic. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST OBEY THE CALIFORNIA VEHICLE CODE AT ALL TIMES. Centerline rule will be strictly enforced at the Trimble Crits and Uvas Road events.

Helmets are required anytime you are on the roadway before, during and after the event.

In accordance with California Vehicle Code, ear buds and headphones are not allowed. If you are seen wearing them by either the Winter Series staff or volunteers, you will be disqualified for that day's event and no points will be awarded.

Everyone must sign the RELEASE FORM to participate: Print & Sign
One form per entire series.
