It all started in 1939.....

San Jose Bicycle Club (SJBC) members actively participate in club and USA Cycling (USAC) riding and racing in the greater Bay Area and Northern Nevada. The USAC is the U.S. organization from which the U.S. Olympic cycling team is selected and professional status is attained. SJBC has consistently been one of the most successful amateur bicycle racing clubs in Northern California region over the course of its 81+ year history.

SJBC has committed itself to the nurturing and development of beginning and junior cyclists members coaching and organized racing events aimed at increasing the skill, ability and enjoyment of each member.

We have helped produce junior, state, and national champions, both on the road and on the track, and we are very proud of this accomplishment. We are one of the few clubs to have earned the Northern California-Nevada Racing Association Best All-Round Team--an award based on outstanding racing results--for three years in a row.

Although winning is important to any cycling team, our real focus is on our members, whether they be Category 1 champions or riders new to competitive cycling. That's why we offer our training series throughout the year, with our long-standing Winter Series, with events from early October until January, and our Twilight Criterium Series, held from early May to late August. Interestingly, our Winter Series has run continuously for so long, that we aren't sure when it started, but we believe it dates back to around 1953. Both series are low-key club events that give all members a chance to share the training, the competition, and the podium.
On Saturdays throughout the year we have our club ride, dubbed the Blue Train. We normally have two rides, A and B, to accommodate riders of all levels. The A ride is quite spirited with fast pace lining, sprint spots, and short regroups at the top of climbs. If you are looking for a less "spirited" ride, the B ride might be a good fit. Typically this ride is no-drop and focuses on improving your group riding skills. Check out Club Rides for details.
The club hosts The Mount Hamilton Classic, a USAC-sanctioned event, which is held over Memorial Day Weekend, and attracts nearly 400 racers. The Mount Hamilton Classic is one of the few point-to-point road races still held in California. Our club really pulls together during this event, and we invite you to volunteer for a few hours, and help us make our race a continuing success. In 2020, we will also run the Cat’s Hill Criterium, another USAC-sanctioned event.

The club also offers our members opportunities for pro-deals as well as discounts at area bike shops. These will be passed on through emails to current members, but are also available in the 'Members' section of the website. We offer very nice discounts on clothing, food and drink products, and on equipment.

The club has a long history of riding and racing, and we hope that you consider joining us to continue moving cycling forward!
